A fire in the woods with smoke coming out of it requires the immediate response of a Fire Department to dispatch firefighters for rescue operations.

Ongoing Lea Hill area brush fire creates smoke distraction

An ongoing brush fire on a hillside near the 29800 block of 138th Ave. SE on Lea Hill in Auburn continues to produce smoke and will likely do so for several more hours, possibly extending through Nov. 17. Please refrain from calling 9-1-1 if you see the smoke, as we have a crew of firefighters on site.

The fire, caused by natural decomposition, began in the center of an approximately 40x60x80 cubic foot pile of grass clippings and leaves located on a steep hillside. Extinguishing the fire will take some time due to the size and amount of debris burning and lack of fire hydrants in the immediate area.
