Captain Aaron Martin Named VRFA’s 2025 Fire Officer of the Year

The Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) is proud to announce Captain Aaron Martin as the 2025 Fire Officer of the Year, a recognition that honors his unwavering dedication, leadership, and selfless service to both his team and the broader community.

Since joining VRFA in April 2012, Aaron Martin has been an example of steadfast commitment and service. The Fire Officer of the Year award honors leaders who exemplify excellence and integrity, and Aaron demonstrates these qualities through clear direction, sound decision-making, and the creation of strong teams. He is known for developing people, fostering trust, and advancing a safe, healthy community.

From 2017 to 2022, Aaron served as a Public Information and Education Specialist, shaping outreach efforts and connecting the VRFA with the community. His promotion to Captain in October 2022 marked a new chapter focused on mentorship, strategic leadership, and health advocacy.

Captain Martin’s influence extends beyond emergency response. He has served on the Strategic Plan Committee, is a JATC representative, is involved in Peer Support, and instructs CPR and Stop the Bleed classes. As a lead on the Health and Wellness Committee, he led a major overhaul of the station gyms, introducing new equipment and inspiring personnel to engage in fitness and mental health initiatives. Aaron leads by example, encouraging his crew to work out on shift and stay vigilant about their mental well-being.

His commitment and exceptional performance have earned him numerous accolades, including Firefighter of the Year in 2020 and the Station 36 Mack Award in both 2024 and 2025. Beyond his professional role, Aaron is an active member of Local 1352, participating in highway litter pickups, Toys for Kids drives, and the firefighter stairclimb multiple times.

Aaron’s impact is perhaps best summed up by his peers. A fellow firefighter shares, “Aaron is a great example of a captain in the fire service. I think you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who wouldn’t want to work for Aaron Martin. He has a great attitude, works hard, and truly wants to see everyone around him succeed.”

“Aaron collaborates and motivates, challenging his crew to grow and creating innovative drills. He’s enjoyable to work with and quick to support anyone needing help.”

Perhaps the highest praise: “The easiest way to explain Martin is ‘stud.’ He’s good at everything on the fireground and around the station. He’s the guy I want being first in if my house is on fire and my family is in there.”

Congratulations to Captain Aaron Martin on being named VRFA 2025 Fire Officer of the Year!
