Jim Franklin named VRFA’s 2025 Firefighter of the Year

We are proud to recognize Jim Franklin as the VRFA 2025 Firefighter of the Year.

This award honors a firefighter who exemplifies excellence and teamwork. Jim’s skill and discipline foster trust, accountability, and commitment within his crew. He lives our mission, showing Selfless Service, Integrity, and Grit in all he does.

Franklin joined the Auburn Fire Department (now VRFA) on April 29, 1996. Over the past 30 years, he has dedicated over a decade to Public Information and Education, represented the JATC, contributed to the respiratory team, and deployed numerous times with the Wildland Fire Team. He now serves as Deputy Fire Marshal, but fills in on shift serving the community when needed.

Franklin’s peers shared these comments:

“Jim is someone you can always count on. He brings a positive attitude and treats everyone with respect. His presence makes things run more smoothly and makes the day better for the people around him.”

“Jim has been a tremendous asset to the FMO, bringing an old-school work ethic and an operations-driven mindset. He is productive, boosts morale, and has connected well with everyone at Station 35.”

Jim Franklin may not be the loudest in the room, but he shows a steady work ethic, keeps a positive attitude, and steps up to make a difference every day.
