Smoke Alarms Alert Residents of Fire

At 2:55 p.m. on August 15, 2019 VRFA and South King Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to a residential fire in the 32000 block of 58th Avenue South on Auburn’s west hill. First arriving crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage and a truck in the driveway. Due to the intensity of the fire and hot outside temperatures a second alarm was called. Six engine companies, two ladder companies, two aid cars, two medic units, two battalion chiefs, two chiefs, one PIO and a fire investigator responded. A tapped fire was called at 4:50 p.m.

Smoke alarms alerted the two adult residents in the home and they were able to escape uninjured. The home sustained heavy damage and three cars were also damaged. Two cats were missing.

Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical problem. Damage to the 4,300 square foot home and contents was is extensive and is estimated at $1.5 million.
