Make a family communications plan

The next step to get ready for a disaster is to make a plan of how you will talk to your family if you end up in different places after a disaster.  Watch the video to learn more.

Activity:

  1. After watching the video, talk with your family about phone numbers that you would need in a disaster.
  2. Fill out the family communications plan.
  3. Talk about where you will meet as a family. Choose a meeting spot inside your neighborhood and one outside of your neighborhood, in case you are at school when a disaster strikes.
  4. Make sure everyone in your family knows where the emergency kit is stored.
  5. Once you have a list of all the phone numbers, put it on your refrigerator and keep a copy in your emergency kit.

Remember, in a disaster, texting from a cell phone might work better than calling.
