Auburn Fire Medic Fund
In 1978, a group of Auburn citizens, led by the Soroptimist International Club of Auburn and the Auburn Rotary Club, conducted a fund raising drive committed to improving the quality and availability of emergency medical services in the area. As a result of these efforts, a non-profit corporation was established. Today, the "Auburn Fire Medic Fund" is chaired by members from Rotary and Soroptimist, and supported by VRFA staff. This group evaluates needs for training and equipment on a yearly basis, then raises and distributes funds based upon these needs.
Over two decades, the Auburn Fire Medic Fund has raised over $135,000 and supplied Firefighter/EMT's with much needed equipment and training. Educational grants have been awarded for training in handling traumatic injuries, river rescue emergencies, hazardous material response, and confined space rescue. Equipment grants have provided for fully equipped aid cars, special rescue equipment, and cardiac defibrillation units. Most recently, Fire Medic grants were used to purchase a new thermal imaging camera and several rope rescue kits for our fire engines.
